Stunningly
beautiful Silver and Tortoiseshell Capstan Ink Well,
featuring a plain body with ribbon and reed border.
The hinged cover is edged with the same border and boasts
a magnificent Tortoisehell cover, inlaid with Silver
swags and garlands.
Not
only is this an unusual design, but is an extremely
sought after piece as it has retained it's original
glass liner - a real rarity. Unfortunately the maker's
mark is rubbed making it hard to decipher, however it
appears to read "MW." The base is also stamped
"Mappin & Webb" which would explain the
stamp. |
